Top Homeschooling Essentials

With the modern pandemic making its way across the globe, homeschooling is no longer an option for many families. For those who are just embarking on this new educational journey, preparation is key, which is something any seasoned homeschool family will tell them.

In addition to preparing lesson plans and organizing a quiet workspace, there are certain supplies that need to be on hand to ensure homeschool efforts are successful. Keep reading to learn what the best things to have for homeschool are.

The Students

While the students may seem like an obvious part of the equation, there is no homeschooling if there are no students. Without kids - or grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc. - who is going to benefit from the educational process? While this may seem like a silly addition to this list, it is a necessity.

White Board

Having a dry erase board and accessories is a must. This board will likely have several uses throughout the course of the day. These boards can be used for daily to-do lists, science lessons, math lessons and more. Consider getting one that is magnetic, which is going to be even more beneficial in the course of the day.

Technology

Today's technology allows individuals to utilize all sorts of lessons and skills that may not be known or accessible otherwise. It's best to have laptops, tablets, and other tech-related learning resources. For example, these can be used to practice foreign languages, sing along to fact-learning songs, listen to music from various countries and more.

Quality Books

It doesn't matter where the books come from - Amazon, the library, friends, etc. - having access to quality books is necessary for any homeschool experience. Try to purchase engaging biographies or historical fiction, which are great ways to learn about history. Another great tool for kids in elementary school is "The Magic School Bus." These are in book and video form, so they are great learning resources to have on-hand.

Pencils and a Pencil Sharpener

While it may not seem like the most exciting part of homeschooling kids, having a quality, electric pencil sharpener can be invaluable. When kids are doing work at home, they need to have quality pencils on hand - and a few spares. Be sure to purchase these items ahead of time and get everything nice and sharp before homeschooling lessons begin.

A Good Planning System

For forgetful teachers, it's a good idea to have a planning system in place. This doesn't matter if it is a spiral notebook, a "mom binder," something online, or a customized planner, it's a good idea to have something that can be used for planning lessons.

Understanding what to do and how to do it when homeschooling kids for the first time is invaluable. Be sure to keep the information here in mind and use the tools and resources that are gathered. By doing this, the kids will have the best homeschooling experience possible, regardless of what grade they are in or what they are learning.
