Reality Bites—Sink your teeth into reality show SHARK TANK
ABC’s SHARK TANK Week, featuring a favorite episode from each shark, adds to the buildup of the show’s 2-hour season premiere on Friday, September 26 at 8|7c. After five years on television and rating as the most watched program on Friday nights, the Mark Burnett-produced show is an obvious success. It received both the 2014 Emmy for Outstanding Structured Reality Program and the Critics’ Choice TV Award as Best Reality Series, after being nominated twice before.
Based on the TV show DRAGON’S DEN, SHARK TANK features a panel of sharks otherwise known as Mark Cuban, American businessman/investor/owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, Landmark Theatres, and Magnolia Pictures; Canadian businessman/investor/writer Kevin O’Leary; American entrepreneur/investor/author Daymond John; Croatian-born Canadian businessman/investor Robert Herjavec; American inventor/investor/entrepreneur Lori Greiner; and American businesswoman/investor/author Barbara Corcoran.
As the sharks listen to pitches made by aspiring entrepreneurs seeking investors, they interact with the presenters as well as each other to dramatic and comedic effect before passing on the product or striking a deal. Although the sharks may agree to invest during the show, many of the deals fail to become a reality due to the investor’s vetting process following the agreement which includes product testing, examining the business financials, and various contingencies.
One entrepreneurial company that made a deal on the show and stuck to it is none other than Whiteyboard. Backed by Cuban in 2012, Whiteyboard now offers an array of dry-erase products in a variety of colors and sizes—proving the company not only stays afloat, but does swimmingly well.
